Eat lots of plant foods (video)

Stig's tenth commandment is important to get a nutrient-dense diet that counteracts inflammation in the body and benefits the bacteria in the gut. See the video below.

Eat lots of plant foods

Stig’s recommendation is to eat 800 grams – 1 kg of plant food per day. Raw food is preferred, which means avoiding heating. However, it is fine to use both deep-frozen and fresh vegetables – because both options are rich in antioxidants and fibre.

Did you know that the intestinal flora’s good bacteria are completely dependent on the diet being rich in plant foods and fibre? Unfortunately, studies show that many people in the Western world do not get enough fiber – on average, the diet consists of only 15 grams a day. In contrast with our ancestors, who ate up to 1.5 kg of raw plants every day – which equated to at least 150 grams of plant fibre. A fiber-rich diet has been shown to reduce the risk of various diseases, including cardiovascular disease, stroke and cancer. To give your good bacteria optimal conditions, Stig recommends at least 800 grams of plant food a day. Some plant fibers that Stig has taken an extra interest in are pectin, inulin, beta-glucans, and resistant starch, which you can read more about in his column.
